The 2014 Emmy Awards will air on August 25, which means you have just over a month to catch up on the shows that will be honored on TV's biggest night. The nominations were announced last week, informing us on what we need to binge on now so we know what all the fuss is about when the ceremony rolls around. Don't you want to be connected to the winners when they accept their awards? Get in-the-know:
"Orange Is the New Black"
If you haven't watched one of this year's most talked about shows, what are you waiting for? "Orange" is up for the most awards in the comedy categories and its cast is not without recognition. Star Taylor Schilling is in the running for Lead Comedy Actress, Kate Mulgrew for Supporting, and Natasha Lyonne, Uzo Adubo, and Laverne Cox are all Guest Actress contenders. Get thee to Netflix now to watch their fearless performances.
"True Detective"
Another buzz-worthy show that got tons of Emmy love. "Detective" is up for Best Drama, best director, and both its stellar leads are nominated. There's a chance Matthew McConaughey could take this one, too. There are only eight episodes to catch up on!
"The Normal Heart"
This HBO film is up for Outstanding TV movie and has 16 nominations overall, including those for actors Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Jim Parsons, Joe Mantello, and Matt Bomer.
"Breaking Bad"
Seriously? Just trust us on this one. "Breaking Bad" could take home yet another Best Drama Emmy this year, and we wouldn't be surprised if Bryan Cranston won for his final season portrayal of Walter White. Don't have plans this weekend? Now ya do.
"Portlandia"
Fred Armisen earned a Best Supporting Actor nod for his hilarious work on "Portlandia," a show that has six nominations in total. Steve Buscemi has a Guest Actor nomination for his role as a sad-sack celery salesman, so if you only have time for one episode, check that one out!
"House of Cards "
Another Netflix gem, political drama "House of Cards" is up for 13 nominations this time around. There are only two seasons to get through and you'll be hooked from the start.
"American Horror Story: Coven"
The best thing about an anthology like "AHS" is that you don't have to catch up on all the seasons to be completely up-to-speed. If you've never watched, start backwards with the Emmy-nominated "Coven" and watch nominees Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange work their magic.
"Veep"
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is nominated for her hilarious work on "Veep," a comedy with nine nominations. Supporting cast Tony Hale and Anna Chlumsky are also up for awards.
"Game of Thrones"
HBO's current crown jewel leads the Emmys pack with nineteen nominations. If you're not watching- well, you probably missed out on like half the Monday morning conversations that took place over the past few months.
"Fargo"
And just behind "Thrones" is FX's critically acclaimed "Fargo." There are only ten episodes to get into.
