Is Ethan Hawke Becoming 'Doctor Strange'?

Goodbye, Joaquin Phoenix; hello, Ethan Hawke?



This Is Infamous claims that Marvel is considering Hawke to play the titular character in its upcoming "Doctor Strange" movie. Phoenix has long been rumored for the role, but sources tell the site that Marvel moved on after the actor balked at a multi-picture deal.



The choice of Hawke makes sense. He previously worked with director Scott Derrickson on "Sinister," and has the right look and gravitas.



"Doctor Strange" is a key part of Marvel's "Phase 3." The character would likely be introduced in another of the studio's films - a small role, perhaps, or an Easter egg. Marvel has already booked Pinewood Studios in England and plans to begin shooting next May, with an eye toward a summer 2016 release.
