In "Whiplash," Miles Teller ("The Spectacular Now") plays an aspiring jazz drummer who is lucky enough to be chosen for the college band of the most prestigious music school in the country. That is, until he realizes that the conductor (J.K. Simmons) is a sadistic brute who believes in pushing his students beyond their limits to achieve greatness.
